Mental aspect of running

I just read a news article of how the mind plays a big role in sports such as running. The article was about Bill Morgan's ideas, who is a professor at the University of Wisconsin. He says that the mind holds you back when you could be doing better.

This made me remember back to my cross country days. This really is true, and I have found that out personally. I remember one time I decided I was just going to get out to the front of the runners and see how long I could stay there. I ended up staying there in the top ten, and ran much faster than ever before. What this professor says is true, and I have seen it happen in more cases than just this.
